Voices on the Coast Excursion
Congratulations to the Year 7-9 students who attended the Voices on the Coast Literature Festival on Monday June 3. We had a brilliant day at USC mingling with authors and illustrators.
Homework Club
Homework Club is on every Thursday for Year 7 - 12 students from 3-4pm.
Book Club Bonanza!
Check out the books we were able to purchase with the Term 1 Scholastic Book Club commission! We bought a class set of Atlases and a wide range of picture books, non-fiction titles and young adult novels.
Lego is a winner!
Lego landed at the library this year and has been very popular at lunch, with an amazing array of creations being built daily.
Coming Soon
The Infinity Ring series has landed at the library and will be available soon.
Signed Copies
Did you know we have a range of books signed by authors in the library. Mrs McKellar went to Brisbane last week to meet the amazing Pat Flynn, Frances Watts and David Legge. They were all very happy to sign our books! Look out for them next time you come to the library.
Book Club
Secondary Book Club meets every Wednesday at Second Break in the Secondary Library Space - see Mrs Morris for more info. Week 3 - 11 February.
Well, a few students and Mrs Morris had a chat about Book Club ideas and blogging at this week's Book Club meeting. We are thinking of names for Book Club and all agreed that we love chatting about books that we have read! Sometime our discussions get quite animated but enthusiasm for a great story is catchy...
One of the ideas put forward was to look at all reading the same book so we are gathering suggestions for next week. Mrs Morris showed us some of the Literacy Circle titles - we could choose one of those. The literacy circle books have multiple titles so we could choose one and a lot of us could read it at the same time and have chats about it at Book Club.
Another idea for Book Club is to make contributions to this blog and make it available for others to read - we will be talking about this at the next book club.
What's your reading goal for 2015? Mrs Morris is challenging herself to read 50 books in 2015... she didn't quite reach that number in 2014, only made it to 44 so she's having a go again this year.
Did you know that tomorrow February 14 is International Book Lovers Day? I wonder what you will be reading tomorrow? Let us know what you did enjoy reading and we'll blog - on about it!
Readers' Cup
The Readers' Cup is a competition that rewards students who do well at reading. Just as good sports people receive rewards, good readers receive prizes and certificates for competing at reading. The Readers Cup Competition consists of teams of four students reading books that have been selected by teacher-librarians and English teachers. These teams compete against each other in heats at their school. Each team provides written answers to quiz questions about a number of books, and the team with the highest score goes into the finals.
